(Applies to: all versions of FusionBB)

In FusionBB there are 4 different types of forums you can create and manage:

Categories - are top level forums. These can contain only forums. If you don't wish to utilize the categories, you can simply just create one "General" category and put everything inside of that.

Forums - can contain topics or other forums. Forums can also be configured to be galleries (and contain images).

Subforums - are the same as forums, except instead of being inside of a category, they are inside of other forums. You can have unlimited subforums, so you can have, for example,a forum inside of a forum inside of a forum inside of a forum. The possibilities are endless.

Links - are simply links to elsewhere on your site, or on the web. This isn't a full fledged "Links Database" (although that functionality is planned for a future version of FusionBB), but it does allow you to add a link to another area on your site. This will look and appear like a forum, and can be inside a category or another forum. It can be configured to open within the same window, or a new window, and clicks to the are counted.

To Create A Forum

My Fusion >> Admin Area >> Forums >> Add Forums

  • Utilize the ? question mark icons (popup help buttons) as you create each forum to understand what each option does.

  • When creating a forum, make sure to check the "Forum is Active" button,

otherwise it will not appear.

To Edit Existing Forums

My Fusion >> Admin Area >> Forums >> Manage Forums

  • Find the forum you wish to edit, make sure the pull down menu next to it is on "Edit Forum" and click the "Go" button next to the forum you want.

To reorder forums

My Fusion >> Admin Area >> Forums >> Manage Forums

  • Adjust the numbers on the left hand side to alter the display order of the various forums and categories. When you are finished, make sure to click the "Update Forum Settings" at the bottom of the page.

To Edit Forum Permissions

My Fusion >> Admin Area >> Forums >> Edit Permissions

  • Click "Modify" next to the usergroup and forum you wish to edit.

Inherit from Parent vs. Inherit from Self

Note that forums can either inherit permissions from themselves or from their parent.

  • If you define a certain category to have a certain set of permissions

and want all forums inside to have the same permissions, you need not edit each forum's options separately: you can simply set each forum to inherit its permissions from parents.

  • There's also a Global set of permissions: when a category

is set to pull permissions from its parent, the global set is what it'll use.
