Ok, I'm compulsive about some things. I'm looking at the new 3.0, and I notice that each reply shows this HUGE amount of space between the post/separation/signature and the bottom of that response. Why SO much space in 3.0? |

There is a considerable amount of white space there. I'm not sure why, possibly due to the additions of the user options button? We'll have to take a look. |

actually its more about the aligning of the option buttons then anything else.. there was not really a more elegant way to accomplish locking the options to the bottom because everytime we tried something the alpha testers hated it

I really hate to say this, but I won't upgrade with 'that' much space there. It looks like someone's added spaces to their signature to stretch their posts. Sure there's NO WAY to stop it?? |

I'm bringing this up with Josh and the others to see if we can't possibly do something in that respect. I really won't delay the upgrade for that, as there are other features of 3.0 that are certainly worth looking at. Just hang in there and I'll try and keep you updated as much as I can.

Hmmm I'm 1024 x 768 on a 17" monitor and there's 1½ if you don't have a signature and 2" of 'empty space' if you do have a signature. Im sure some folks won't mind it.... yes, every label in my cupboards/closets faces front, all my hangers are the same color and face the same way. |

there is a way to stop it and you can remove the spaces but the bottom button bar is gonna float and not be aligned on the bottom. So if thats not a problem for you then go into the templates/fusionbb/showtopic_p_row.php and look for <br /> and take out all the ones that are grouped.. heres how it use to look... And then during the 3.0 build I tried everything.. including placing it under and no one liked it and everyone said put it back to how it was.. so we did.. now people say other software does it so if anyone can come up with a better idea on how to do it with the showtopic_p_row.php template file so that everyone likes it I am sure Josh will use it...

v2.2, I've got about ½" between the last bit of text or even the signature line.. and the bottom button bar. I can't wait for v3, and now it's 1½ - 2". Frankly, I don't care what 'other' software does. I see no purpose to 'extra' space and it doesn't look smooth/professional as 2.2 does. |

then use the 2.2 showtopic_p_row.php row and just make sure to add the variables that were added with 3.0 and the top one is from 2.2~2.3

I have an issue with the 'user options' button due to the fact that if you click it instead of just hovering over it you get shot to the top of the thread. If we're getting all this dead space just to accommodate the drop-down box would it not be possible to make it a clickable button with a drop-down menu that renders on top of anything beneath it in the same way some of the buttons do on the nav bar such as 'My Fusion'? That white space has got to be a PIA if you have a small screen. If we've got to have that button I like it where it is - I seem to remember it was over on the right somewhere in one of the beta's & just looked wrong. |

It's not because of the user options, but because of the post option buttons in the lower right hand corner, is what CT is explaining. |

I see now! I couldn't find an any instances of that button float problem on my 2.3 install although I did manage to recreate it on a test post. I have to say I never noticed it before. I think I'd rather stick to the rare float occurrence than the dead space in every post. |

Asking now if the extra space issue has been resolved in some way. I'm back from vacations and 'stuff' and would like to upgrade to the newest version BUT the space issue MUST be cleared up before I'll upgrade. |

We have not yet decided whether this will be changed or not. If it is changed it will not be changed until a future version as we do not port changes into previous or currently released versions (with the exception of any security fixes).

I've loved Fusion from day one (still do), but graphically, the space is a step backwards. I can hear my members saying, "What happened, the layout is screwed up". VBG

Look the new things are great, but to keep a smooth transition, it needs to feel the same but with new features. The huge amount of space is more than annoying. Like I said, measured on my screen it's quite significant. There should be a work around, if not consensus to remove this totally unnecessary waste of space. I've been waiting since end of June to PAY to have my forum upgraded...but again the waste of space is unacceptable to the eye. |

I don't know, I've looked at other forums, some don't seem to have quite as much white space and others have just as much. But, it does seem that when you use a signature with Fusion the white space does seem a bit large. Here is something I just noticed on my site and on here. When I dragged the mouse to highlight areas of the reply box I noticed a small 'bar' showing up that is otherwise hidden. Could this be the cause of this white space issue?

When I highlight just the bar and hit view selection, this is what I get.
< <br><br> <br><br> <div style="clear: both;"></div> <table valign="bottom" align="center" border="0" width="100%"> <tbody><tr><td align="right"> <div class="buttons-container"> <ul class="post-buttons"> <!--MODERATE_POST--><li> I added the extra "<" to be able to see the code.

It's an aesthetic thing. Honestly it doesn't bother me and I think that it wouldn't bother most people. CT was looking for a cleaner way to line up the icons because of complaints about how they lined up. We really can't please everyone. The nice thing is, if you don't like it, you don't have to use it! I find it really interesting that something this small would seriously stop someone from using all the other incredible features of this version of FusionBB, especially knowing how easy it is to make simple template changes to change how the layout looks. That's the best part of FusionBB, flexibility! SO if you decide to upgrade, even though the template isn't to your liking, well... here's the small bit of code to remove to get rid of the gap. In templates > fusionbb > showtopic_p_row.php Find: Code: REMOVE: Code: That would put it back to the exact same spacing as 2.3. I hope that helps with your decision. |

Thanks Chris, I tried to find that, but couldn't seem to see it in the actual code. Personally, it doesn't bother me either and I'd not even thought about it until this thread.

Could try editing the CSS for the signature... .signature br { line-height:0px; } or even just remove them: .signature br { display:none; } Cheers, ~Dave

I find it really interesting that something this small would seriously stop someone from using all the other incredible features of this version of FusionBB My failure to upgrade is partly down to finding time to thoroughly test the new version but I guess I'm falling into that camp to a large degree - maybe not one small issue, but a collection of small issues. I'm not going to be using some of the new features eg blogs, but some of the front end appearance & formatting is putting me off. I appreciate I could be experiencing a better backend if I move from 2.3 to 3 but I'd rather sarifice some convenience for me, the admin, than sacrifice the look of my forum for the users. I appreciate I can likely customise the bit's I don't like but that adds to the time needed to test. |

I understand we can't make everyone happy but FusionBB is completely end user customizable as well. So I would hope that would be taken into account when something isn't quite what you'd like to see. Plus feedback is a large part of the final product. I know you are an alpha tester so as the next version develops, we count on you to help build the product, especially during the alpha phases of testing.

I hope that helps with your decision. To remove the space from Private Topics, edit "showpt_row.php". I removed all but two "breaks", and it looks good. Code: Once you told us where to edit this, it's really simple and not a big deal. It's a one time edit.

Yes but next upgrade, assuming it hasn't been changed on our end, you may need to re-apply the change. Always document your template changes just in case!

Hey Chris - I'm happy! ( Adds smilie to prove it) I love my fbb 2.3 forum! I'm sure I'll love my 3.x forum too but finding the time to test & select the new features & customise out the bits I don't like to get to the same degree of 'happiness' as before is hard for me.As a relative newbie I've only experienced small version increments - easily absorbed. v3 is a lot at once! |

sb1963, let me assure you, once you upgrade and get it worked out, you're going to love it. v3.0 was a huge leap due to some features that had to be included, such as the blog, etc. Usually we just have small updates and introduce new features gradually, but this was a huge one. Hang in there as it's only going to get better.

The fix by removing the breaks doesn't work in 3.1 as they are no longer there. I found if modified the code in templates/fusionbb I could get less white space on short posts; Code: I reduced both min-height settings to 150px |
