We are still working very hard behind the scenes to bring FusionBB 1.0 to public release. I have just updated this site to version .8 Alpha. Changes in .8 Alpha:
Probably the most major thing to test out is the Search capability... please bang on it and post any bugs you find. On the search page, please click the question mark to review the popup help - this offers tips as to how the search engine works and gives examples. We have also brought on our first support staff member. Please welcome Kathleen, who will soon be in these forums to assist you and help answer questions. Dave, Jesse and Myself will also continue to help with support, but Kathleen will be the front lines of our support, while we are busy developing. ![]() We are pushing for Beta 1.0 which we can release publically. We have a few more big things on our list to finish up before it's ready for you to use. The search engine was a big item, and we are happy that's done. We will need to flush out our installer and admin area before it's ready for live testing by end users. Because we know you all are very anxious to try it out, we are focussing our efforts on that short "to do" list so that it can go live. We won't be adding many new features at this point, but please keep posting suggestions and such. We can return to adding features and functionality (beyond our original list) once we get 1.0 out the door. ![]() We definately want to expand beyond what you see here... but if we hold it forever while we expand features, you'll never get to try it out for yourself. And some of you are very anxious to do that. Heck, I have sites myself that I'm anxious to get updated to Fusion. So our focus now is getting it released. ![]() Please continue to test things, report bugs and make feedback and feature suggestions. If you have comments you'd like to see featured in our "Quote" particle box (in the sidebar) you can Post them here. Note, Jason - sorry I deleted your reply. I had to re-post this and add it to the portal.

Let me apologize to everyone who signed up for the FusionBB mailing list. I use a little script I wrote to send the emails... and before I knew what I was doing, I'd accidentally sent the previous email (announcing our live site opening). I'll pay closer attention next time. ![]() For those who aren't on our FusionBB mailing list yet, if you'd like to receive periodic updates... either read the forums here, or visit our home page and signup for our mailing list.

Is that tied into the "Receive mass emails from board administration"? If so, it might not be working because I never got an email.

No - we don't have much of an Admin section yet - so it's a separate mailing list we setup before we even had a live forum. You can key your email address into our home page.

Almost forgot - Jason has introduced a couple of new skins! Oxygen is available for use as well as ChuChu although I think that one is still a work in progress. Can't remember if we had Mercury available in .7 or not. But they look sharp. ![]() You can change your skin in the Display Prefs section of your Control Panel.

Mercury is similar to the Mac OS X theme in use at www.fmforums.com and Leoville default.

Just to let everyone know - we are working right now on putting a pencil to pricing... so I hope to have pricing info ready to announce within the next week or so. We're also looking at potentially offering a pre-sale discount.

Where do I sign???? ![]() Also, I am assuming you will have a section on the site where you will post links to clients that use FBB. I have a suggestion for that too ... have a page that shows the name of the site, the link to the site main and forums , and then also allow a quote from the site admin about the product. I would be more than happy to help endorse this product, as well as others (taking the quote deal further).

Hmmm... Weird! Why can't I edit my post? Is it the skin (I am using Cobalt), permissions or an omission?

We've researched it - Plesk is working on MySQL 4 compatibility, so shouldn't be long by the time we swing into sales that plesk will support it. It's taken them forever, but 3 is so buggy. I can't imagine still using it. This was a tough decision for us... but Search is a big choke point for many forums. We could be like everyone else, or we could provide a product which actually works better, particularly for the larger forums. MySQL 4 has been out for quite a while (at least more than a year) so eventually Plesk will catch up.

Ian Spence Said: Yes, you should be able to upgrade MySQL on any server. Not sure how that interacts with plesk, but MySQL 3 is pretty buggy and no where near as efficient as MySQL 4, so I'm sure it's been done.

Yes, it has been done but a) it is not supported and b) it is not for the fienghthearted. In fact it is advised against. That is why until Plesk include it, then 99%+ of Plesk servers will be on 3.23.58 I realise that you have to move on - but I think you will be surprised as to how many servers are still running MySQL 3.x Good luck with the development - I am just sorry that I cannot be part of it ![]() (BTW - I am assuming the notification by email of new posts is not working for everyone at the moment?) |

Yeah, we haven't finished that yet - Hang in there. We don't want to leave anyone out. Hopefully Plesk will catch up soon. They can't stay using 3 forever.

JoshPet Said: Apparently it is due to licencing issues - looks like it will be 3 for a few months yet ![]() Redhat versions of Linux will only ship with 3.x at the moment. ![]() |
