Well, I've been using (7 years) and thinking about Fusion BB for quite a while and I've come to the conclusion that it's the best damn forum software out there.

I just finished setting up an older forum to run FusionBB. The install of Fusion went perfect without a single hitch.

I then ran the conversion utility included with Fusion to convert the site from UBBT 7.x and it went perfect except for one item. While it recreated the gallery, it did not pull over the images. I'll post that in the bugs forum.

Otherwise it again affirmed my decision to run FusionBB on all four of my sites.

Good Job Fusion!!

Hi,

The major work with the site Professional Excel Development is now done and it has been officially launched.

The reason why I decided to use FusionBB was three folded:

* FusionBB appeared to be an easy software to work with. I lack almost all knowledge of using a software like this one and now that I have been using it for a while I'm more then pleased with it.

* The team behind FusionBB offer an installation help. In this case it was Bill who did the work and he did a professional excellent job. I can highly recommend to use their inexpensive service.

* This site as it reflects the commitment to FusionBB and the willingness to support users. I would like to explicit thank Chris Peterson and Greg for helping me out with the settings in FusionBB. They showed a great patient with all my questions in the "How To Questions" forum.

What can be improned in future releases is the documentation but because FusionBB is easy to use it compensate the documentation.

To sum up: Thanks guys.

All the very best,
Dennis
Kind regards,
Dennis

(Applies to Versions 3.0 and newer of FusionBB)

Upgrading and Setting Up MPP

Please note: If you have previously used MPP (MyPaymentPal) on your site, your original settings are saved in your config/mpp_config.php file. Before upgrading to the current version of FusionBB, open this file up and print out the information.

(Also note: In version 3.0 and newer, this information is saved in the database where it is more secure.)

Setting Up the new MPP

In AdminCP >> Edit >> Configuration Settings >> Subscription Settings, set the global settings for all subscriptions.

This includes:

* Status (Indicates whether you are using MPP or not.)

* Show Subscription Tab

* PT Notify (Set to notify the user by PT if subscription access allowed.)

* Log IPN (Logs all IPN Access)

* Expire Pendings (Expires an unsuccessful Pendings.)

* Auto Expire (Auto-expires all Pendings.)

* Include User Info (on subscriptions)

* Number of Days PT Renewal Reminders (Sets how many days prior to subscription ending that the renewal reminder will be sent out.)

Creating User Groups for the Subscriptions

1) In AdminCP >> Subscription >> API Manager , set up the IPN Settings for the IPN you're planning to use.

2) In AdminCP >> Subscriptions >> Create Subscriptions , set up the actual subscription, add prices to whichever currency you plan to use, set up the period for the subscription, and etc.
Make sure that you also select the IPN you're planning to use.

I ran UBBThreads for seven years and was never really happy with it. I knew Josh and Dave had run off to create their own BB software and for the life of me I can't figure out what took me so long to finally getting around to checking it out. Boy am I glad I finally did. The software really sizzles and is superior to UBB Threads in so many ways (pricing, feature set, technical support) that I'm surprised UBB still has any market share. (I suppose there are too many folks like me who didn't know any better.)

I also decided to change my webhost to VertexHost concurrent with the switch to Fusion and Billy and his folks couldn't be more helpful and gracious. They made the tranistion smooth and painless and haven't tired of my many questions no matter how inane some of them must seem.

Billy puts the "value" back in value added. Mark me down as very satisfied!

Use the FAQ Editor to quickly add and edit your site's Frequently Asked Questions list.

To edit your FAQs, go to:

AdminCP >> Language >> Edit FAQ

Editing Your FAQs

This Admin section lists each main topic heading, such as General Site Questions and Posting Questions. To edit entries under a certain heading, click that heading's name to expand the question/answer list, then make what changes you need to.

The image also shows the drop-down menu which allows you to easily move questions/answers from one section to another, or to delete the item entirely.

To update your questions for that section, click the Submit Change wording at the right edge of that section's heading.

New FAQ Category & Topic and Answer sections

To add a New Category of question or New Topic and Answer, scroll to the bottom of the FAQ Editor section and input your information. For the New Topic and Answer section, be sure to use the drop-down menu list to choose the section that you want your new topic to be listed under.

When complete, click the Submit Change button to add your new information or category.

The 'Manage Holidays' section of the AdminCP allows you to customize your site calendar even more than before.

To add specialized holidays or dates, go to:

AdminCP >> Portal >> Manage Holidays

Listed in this section are a set of holidays, such as Easter and Chanukkah, that have the calendar settings already pre-defined for you. Simply click in the check-boxes of the one(s) you would like to add to your site calendar, then click the Submit button to add your choices.

Managing Pre-Defined Holidays

Adding a Customized Date

If you would like to add a customized date, input your date information at the top where it says
Every or The. As before, to add
your date to the calendar, click the Submit button.

Once you've added dates to the calendar, they will show up in the Holiday listing at the bottom of the Managing Holidays section. (See 'Deleting Holidays' image below.)

Should you want to remove a holiday, click the check-box in the Delete column for the unneeded holiday, then click the Delete button above the Holiday section listing.

Deleting Holidays

For this topic:

*info should be added to the Admin and User Calendar topics

*Images as needed

*Path to or how to get there

*How to work with--if different from regular calendar. If it's the same, then reference that fact

**Edit** Since there is NO Admin Calendar topic--need to add (or copy) the User one to the Admin section (?) as well as do the above....

What is needed....

*Version (perhaps put 'applies to all' & if someone grumbles that it doesn't work with 'version blah blah', send them off to peel potatoes? )

*This topic includes a MySQL query language dealie--so will probably need to enclose the aforesaid language in a [ code ] so that everything doesn't go wonky...

***Perhaps add this to the Admin topic on PTs (if there is one) or to the Admin topic on attachments (ditto)--or put somewhere....

Setting up and customizing the rules for your forum is easily done by going to the following area:

AdminCP >> Edit >> Inserts

Rules Insert Section

This is the Rules insert section where you can modify the content. Please be aware that the forum rules text is inserted directly into the HTML page. If you want to use a special formatting to set off part of your text, you will need to use HTML tags to do so.

After you've inputted your rules to your satisfaction, click the Update the Rules button to submit your changes.

Starting with Version 3.0, administrators have the ability to force all users to have to re-accept the forum rules.

This is useful if you make a change to the rules or simply need to remind everyone of your existing rules. Clearing the agreed date will cause every user to have to read and accept the rules again on their next visit back to the forum before they can continue.

To clear the agreed date, go to:

AdminCP >> Database >> Re-Sync Data >> Help Clear Rules Agreed on Date

Once you've clicked the link, the date will be cleared. (No confirmation is needed.)

(Applies to all versions of FusionBB)

Listed below are some things you can do to increase the level of security for your forums:

1. Always upgrade to the latest stable version.

2. Password protect your fusion/cp directory using .htaccess /.htpassword.
Link to a 'How To' article on the javascriptkit.com website.

3. Make sure the fusion/install directory is NOWHERE on your website after you upgrade or install.

4. Make sure all the Admin and Mod passwords are secure.
Change them if you have any doubts. And use hard to guess passwords.

5. Make sure ONLY TRUSTED MEMBERS can do following. Limiting access to these helps prevent file-type change hacking.

In Forums Permissions:

* Can Use HTML in Posts
* Can Attach Files to Posts
* Can Attach Multiple Files to Posts
* Can Use Lightbox

In Control Panel Permissions:

* Can Manage Images

In Site Permissions:

* Can Use uploaded avatars
* Can Attach Files to Private Topics
* Can Attach Multiple Files to Private Topics

6. NEVER allow HTML in posts, PMs or in sigs.

7. If you have phpMyAdmin make sure it's password protected.

8. If you suspect a hacking attempt, ask your host to change the login password for your web account.

9. Make absolutely sure there are no viruses, trojans or keylogger spyware on your PC.
Any of these could steal your password and other personal info.

10. Use a different password for each forum you sign up with.
Use a different password for your forum as you do for the .htaccess directory password.

Please Note!!
Your forums are only as secure as the passwords you use and the server it is on. If the server is accessed then there's nothing Fusion can do to prevent potential security violations.

(Thanks to resident Code Monkey, CT, for this important information!)
