With the big monitors we have these days my portal on a new forum I'm doing has a lot of dead space on it. Once into the forum it looks ok.

I'd like to centralise the portal only, at a fixed width so the dead space is on both sides. Is it possible to put the index.php in an iframe or some other method to achieve the affect?

The easiest way to get your site to a fixed width, is to wrap the whole page in a table.

So in your header you put something like:

Code:

  <table width="600" align="center" border="0"> <tr> <td>

And then you close the table in the footer
Code:

  </td> </tr> </table>

That example restricts the width to 600.

Thanks Josh - Which page or pages would I add that code to centralise/fix the whole site?

Same question if I only want to do that to the portal?

Not sure about mixing php & html

The whole site... you just put it in the Admin->Edit Inserts -> Edit Header Insert/Edit Footer Insert through the admin panel.

As per the portal, that's a bit more complicated, since the header and footer are common for all you can't put it there.

However, I haven't tested this, but in theory, on your portal page, you can create a box at the top left of the portal which opens the table (same code above), and create a particle box at the bottom of the right colum to close the table, thus the whole thing would be constrained by the table.

Note tables can get pushed wider if there's "wide" content that doesn't wrap like long strings of text or images etc...

Thanks Josh - I tried that

If I used the new html editor it automatically added the closing code for the table in the header insert.

If I used the basic editor it seemed to know the code was wrong & won't accept it.

It's over intuitive.

Ack, so much for that.

The TinyMCE (which is the 3rd party WYSIWYG editor) must not like to leave any open tags.

Ok, no elegant way to disable the WYSIWYG editor right now, without removing the Javascript from the template. But try killing the WYSIWYG editor.

Edit /templates/fusionbb/cp/edit_inserts.php

Remove this:
Code:

  <script type="text/javascript" src="{$conf['abs_url']}/includes/tinymce/jscripts/tiny_mce/tiny_mce.js"></script> <script type="text/javascript">     tinyMCE.init({         // General options         mode : "exact",         theme : "advanced",         elements: "HEADER_INSERT, FOOTER_INSERT, CLOSED_INSERT, TOPNEWS_INSERT, SEARCH_INSERT, RULES_INSERT, PRIVACY_INSERT",         plugins : "autolink,lists,pagebreak,style,layer,table,save,advhr,advimage,advlink,emotions,iespell,inlinepopups,insertdatetime,preview,media,searchreplace,print,contextmenu,paste,directionality,fullscreen,noneditable,visualchars,nonbreaking,xhtmlxtras,template,wordcount,advlist,autosave",         convert_urls: false,         // Theme options         theme_advanced_buttons1 : "save,newdocument,|,bold,italic,underline,strikethrough,|,justifyleft,justifycenter,justifyright,justifyfull,styleselect,formatselect,fontselect,fontsizeselect",         theme_advanced_buttons2 : "cut,copy,paste,pastetext,pasteword,|,search,replace,|,bullist,numlist,|,outdent,indent,blockquote,|,undo,redo,|,link,unlink,anchor,image,cleanup,help,code,|,insertdate,inserttime,preview,|,forecolor,backcolor",         theme_advanced_buttons3 : "tablecontrols,|,hr,removeformat,visualaid,|,sub,sup,|,charmap,emotions,iespell,media,advhr,|,print,|,ltr,rtl,|,fullscreen",         theme_advanced_buttons4 : "insertlayer,moveforward,movebackward,absolute,|,styleprops,|,cite,abbr,acronym,del,ins,attribs,|,visualchars,nonbreaking,template,pagebreak,restoredraft",         theme_advanced_toolbar_location : "top",         theme_advanced_toolbar_align : "left",         theme_advanced_statusbar_location : "bottom",         theme_advanced_resizing : true,         // Example content CSS (should be your site CSS)         content_css : "css/content.css",         // Drop lists for link/image/media/template dialogs         template_external_list_url : "lists/template_list.js",         external_link_list_url : "lists/link_list.js",         external_image_list_url : "lists/image_list.js",         media_external_list_url : "lists/media_list.js",         // Style formats         style_formats : [             {title : 'Bold text', inline : 'b'},             {title : 'Red text', inline : 'span', styles : {color : '#ff0000'}},             {title : 'Red header', block : 'h1', styles : {color : '#ff0000'}},             {title : 'Example 1', inline : 'span', classes : 'example1'},             {title : 'Example 2', inline : 'span', classes : 'example2'},             {title : 'Table styles'},             {title : 'Table row 1', selector : 'tr', classes : 'tablerow1'}         ],         // Replace values for the template plugin         template_replace_values : {             username : "Some User",             staffid : "991234"         }     }); </script> <!-- /TinyMCE -->

I have not tested, but in theory, your portal page, you can create a box, open the gateway to the upper left of the HDMI Converter table.
