Fellow Technofiles,

I have installed several programs (FusionBB / Moodle / Wordperfect / Joomla / etc) on my web host space to evaluate what platform of platform(s) to use on an upcoming site. It looks like it will be FusionBB and Moodle.

The problem I came across is that I can't delete all folders and files that were installed during this testing. There are 2 directories and a few files that just will not go away. I do a standard delete and it looks like it is gone, but after a refresh they reappear.

I use VerteHost, so I am sure I could get Billy to take a look at this, but thought I would toss it to this group first. Thanks in advance for any ideas.

If you have shell access you could do the Remove File Command:
Code:

$rm file You can also delete more files at once: rm file1 file2

Remove Folder/Directory Command:
Code:

  $rm -r directory

Do not use the $ sign.

Thanks for this idea. I have always used cPanel. Maybe this is a limitation of cPanel...

Hi Grant,

If you continue to have any problems just drop a line over at the VertexHost desk. It could be an ownership issue.

Did you install these yourself or did you use Fantastico? If you used Fantastico it is recommended that you also use Fantastico to remove the files.

Billy, in the past, I've ran into this same problem even when using Fantastico to try and remove the install. I'm wondering if it's a bug in Fantastico that crops it's ugly head up periodically.

It could be. Fantastico is a great tool, but has been known to be buggy at times.

Usually my recommendation is that if you are not comfortable installing a script use Fantastico, but that if you know how and are comfortable doing it manually, then do that instead.

Fantastico is usually a version or two behind in what releases they have ready for install compared to what you can download directly from the developers site as well.
