I have a user who can not log in. She enters login name and password and is then directed back to login page. She uses Internet Explorer and Windows 7, different browser doesn't seem to help, we deleted all her cookies yet it is still rejecting her. I would appreciate any ideas as to what she can do to get logged in from her computer.

Is this a new user? If so, make sure she activated her account if you have them confirm email. If not, she won't be able to log in. Also have her double check her login name and password.

I logged into her account from my computer, I don't have a ways to login through her computer. I have watched her login and assisted her in cleaning out cookies. I can't remember if she confirmed her email for sure, this could be the issue. I will check or have her login once more.

If you can login as her, then that's not the issue. This appears to be isolated to her PC only? Regardless of browser? Have you had her check the date and time on her PC? That can mess up the cookie expiration if the date/time is off.

If the time on her PC is ok ask her what login name she is using & check that against her user info in the AP. Some people have a different login name to their user name & can get confused. If that checks out give her a new simple password & see if she can login with that. If so she can change it in her control panel.

I just had her login again, she logs in and shows up on the online users, yet she can see forums or go any where else. When she re-registered, she emailed me personally and said she had registered yet had not received a confirm email. I checked her name for approval and it shows as if she had approved the email and I was sent the notice for confirmation. Not sure what to think here. Scott

You still haven't said if you've had her check her date/time on her PC?

She said her time is accurate. I see her logging in, online area, she is being redirected, it sends her back.

Bouch, from 3.0 to current version, the password encryption method did change - thus cookies etc... can really cause some confusion. If users are having trouble, here's things to try.
- If they can login, have them change their password - even if they change it to the same thing, changing it ensures it's encrypted properly.
- Ditch all cookies with the my cookies utility under the Help Menu
- If needed, request a temp password to be emailed to them. After they login with the temp password, they can change their password - this again ensures that they know their proper password, and it's encrypted right in the database.

And they've ditched their cookies? Computer date/time relatively correct?

i was at my brother's place yesterday and saw first-hand an IE9 browser that just would not stay logged in. I used my admin account, reset his password, resynced perms, logged in with firefox (fine) and then changed his password after logging in as him. Computer date/time was right on.
Back in IE8, I cleared all the cookies and after logging in, his account gets booted out again. I have no idea how many people are affected by this, but I think it's alot.

If it's not happening with other browsers I'd say it's an IE thing. I've not been able to recreate that with either FF or Chrome.

lots of people still use IE. it really shouldn't even be an IE thing. What does IE do that is different which can affect logging in?
