FDA.COM is a highly trafficed site.
My discussion group is getting jammed up with spam entries.
Is there a way to do a group delete from a total list of posts to be moderated?
I have hundreds from China and Russia.
Now none of my discussion threads are coming up.
Also I have many email verification requests which are bogus. Is there are way to delete the bogus requests? and to Ban users who are posting hundreds of trash posts?

You can tick them in the index view & delete. I started IP banning Chinese addresses the spammers were using, wild carding the last octet.

Bogus email verifications should auto delete. I'm sure you can adjust that in the AP.

Your fda.com page links direct to:

Should it not link to:

http://www.fdaforums.com/forum/showforum...

I can see old posts in the index that I can't see within the forum - old posts too so pre-approval.
The GAP forum seems ok though. Maybe worth checking the permissions on that & comparing with the other forums.

The best thing I did on mine was to turn on the obscure fields in the security settings. That pretty much put a stop to spammers signing up. They got around the captha but so far the obscure fields has worked good.

The first thing you need to do it block all the Chinese and Russian IPs.

We had some posts about this a while back. Ironically, the captcha doesn't really work that well because I've learned that some groups in some of those asian countries, actually pay people to sit and crack captchas, then they build a database of answers and thus can create a bot to get by them.

John,
This info is copied from an older post.

First line of defense that I've figured out, is thankfully they all register from common email address. So in your Admin area, under Edit, click "Edit Bad Emails" and enter the following in there:

163.com
21cn.com
qq.com
sohu.com
tom.com
yeah.net

I also found some information on what to put in an htaccess file if you wish to block all China (and a few other suspicious countries) from your site all together. The info can be found here:

http://www.parkansky.com/china.htm

With that last link about China, if your site doesn't need visitors from China (ie if your site is in english, it may not need to receive that traffic. Thus using an htaccess file through your web host is the best way to block the bad traffic. We block those IP ranges here and it's helped a great deal.

I actually had to shut down new registrations until I could clean up the approx 2000 spam accounts. I blocked all those bogus domains that we all reported in the forums here and turned on Approve registrations.

Since I don't promote the site at all anymore, new and valid registrations don't come in that often so that works for me right now.
