I've done a successful clean install of 3.2 previously but not have any success doing an upgrade on a 3.1 site
Upgrade Instructions:
- BACKUP Your Files
- BACKUP Your Database
- Upload all files
- Run /install/install.php in your browser
I've changed permissions on the usual folders to 777 even though not mentioned above but still no joy.
All I get is a 404 error page - I have checked via ftp & install/install.php is present.

Not a FBB issue. My ftp account was pointing to a copy of my site on our old server. Sorted by Vertexhost. Files currently being uploaded to the correct location.

Cool. I hope you have better luck with 3.2 than I have had. I upgraded last December and there are still multiple issues with my site. Nothing serious any more but with response times on support, communications and apparent lack of involvement overall, I've just pretty much just given up on it.
I guess I need to just bite the bullet and do something else as much as I hate to. Not being mobile friendly is killing us, along with the 50 second plus page loads and all the other issues we are having.

The upgrade process went smoothly but now I can't log in. I'll be rolling back if I can't get it resolved pretty quickly.
My one vanilla 3.2 site works fine.
While the 3.1 is running fine I'm pretty happy but if things don't improve re support & development around here (FBB isn't future-proof without ongoing development) in the near future we'll be making contingency plans (well some have been made but not pursued yet)

great - can not log in is not accepted by search as words are less than 3 letters.

That is the main problem we had when we upgraded in December. Obviously the way the passwords are encrypted changed and all of the passwords need to be redone. That alone cut my membership participation more than 50 percent and we have not recovered yet. Luckily I never logged out so I fixed my other admin up and then he fixed me up when I logged out and couldn't log in.
As far as the members passwords, that was a nightmare and like I said, it killed my forums over 50 percent and not being mobile friendly is killing what is left little by little every day.
I have a feeling if I don't address that situation pretty quickly, we will probably just shut it down. That is a shame that that issue is not as important to others as it is forum owners. Nowadays if you aren't mobile, you will die. Period.

What do you mean "redone"? Can't the members login?

Upgrade abandoned. Back on 3.1.
Initially, after entering user/pass clicking 'proceed' did nothing. I cleared cache & cookies as Josh had mentioned cookies had had to be cleared in some cases post-upgrade to resolve password issues.
That made a difference - but clicking proceed just took me to /change_pswd.php. I didn't want to change my password & even if I did the fields to do so were not present - just my message to members why the forum was closed.
On the login page if I clicked 'I forgot my password' I got taken to /change_pswd.php as before.
Dunno what change_pswd.php page is for. It's not the page 3.1 takes you too if you request a new password from login or the CP.

No they could not. From what I understand, the password encryption method changed and every member had to have their password changed. From what I understand, they could use the same password, they just had to change it in once I manually gave them a temporary one. I had to do manually get every member back on board myself first by giving them a temp one. We have over 5k members and lost participation with the majority of them because they still cannot log in and never asked for help. Facebook was just easier for them I guess.

Wow, if that's the case, it looks like I will never upgrade and that's the end of Fusion for me. I have over 22,000 members and I can't afford this kind of problem or lack of support.

Maybe a new feature - facebook login integration. I'm seeing that more & more on the 'net.
Something needs to happen soon otherwise it's going to be a case of 'will the last one to leave please switch off the lights'

The proof is in the pudding.
Here are our total bandwidth stats from the last year. You can see the exact month we upgraded. Facebook mobile was already starting to cut into our stats but after that, most people just decided FB was just easier than hassle with a non phone friendly forum.
2011
June 35.61 Gig
July 35.69 Gig
August 34.06 Gig
September 23.97 Gig
October 27.16 Gig
November 32.78 Gig
December 11.96 Gig
2012
January 11.39 Gig
February 5.85 Gig
March 12.04 Gig
April 10.27 Gig
May 9.25 Gig

Is that traffic gone across the whole site or more in off topic areas?
Our site has a busy 'lounge' for off-topic posts - one of the busiest parts of the site but Facebook couldn't replicate the core reference base of what our site is about.
It is important to keep the social sections well attended as that keeps folk in touch with the site which then feeds into the core reference areas.

That is across the whole site. We have off topic stuff too but after the fiasco during the upgrade, we just fell to nothing. I read the FB groups and although everyone knows that we have the major bugs worked out, all I read is how much they love my site but FB is just easier for them because they use their phone mostly.
Like I said before, I pretty much just give up. These issues have been raised for years to no avail so I don't hold out much hope they will ever get addressed. I feel that is why there is a lack of communication in these parts.
Even if they do, I have a feeling it is too little too late.
