I haven't been able to get through to my site last night or this morning. I've had this problem before with my work ISP. I flushed DNS. Restarted the computer and modem, pinged, trace routed. Seems to be dead from where I'm at.

Is the link working?

Josh just fixed it. It was DNS related this time. Somewhere out there my DNS got funky.

Good deal, glad it was a simple fix.

I can't connect to it either, so must not be quite fixed yet.

That's odd. I've seen that happen before. Some people can see a site, some people can't. DNSStuff or DNSReport.com will show some errors.... even though nothing was changed. Usually fixing it is as simple as just editing the record, even though nothing gets changed, the serial number gets changed and it re-propigates around the web.

I tried clicking on the link and Firefox will show that it's loading-- but nothing shows up. (This is at 10:45pm central time).

I can ping it and traceroute just fine - but the page eventually times out - this suggests a problem with your home page?

ahh, Josh, so to troubleshoot DNS errors you use DNSreport.com? that is good to know, thanks

I got on lastnight finally about 1am..

your right, at 10pm, 11pm it didn't work, but by 1am it was working, and this morning has been working fine also..

so Josh was probably right, it was probably a DNS thing.. I know DNS changes take up to 48 hrs to progrigate (sp?) around the internet, found that out yesterday myself took mine 72 hrs actually...ugh!

zone changes, A, CNAME, MX records, are usually instant, though not always, I've seen those changes take 2-3 hours to progrigate (sp?).

DNSREport.com and dnsstuff.com are excellent!

Harold - this may or may not have helped, but to get greater redundency - go to where you registered your domain name and add ns3.vertexhost.com and ns4.vertexhost.com - you're only using 2, which is fine, but more is better when it comes to DNS servers.

The good thing about dnsreport/dnsstuff is that you can eliminate your own ISP quickly - you can check your sites response/email etc quickly.

Sometimes when I have had timeouts I have reassured myself that the server concerned is up and running, whereas my ISP was playing up.

I just lost all ability to see my site again tonight. Can't get in Gregs either. Just died at 9PM tonight. A trace route times out in a fastservers IP before getting to my domain.

Am I losing my mind?

Thanks for the reply.

Harold you should be OK now. Your IP was blocked for some reason from the server.
