Simply out of curiosity. Has anyone used or heard of Site5 hosting?

www.site5.com

They are advertising 55GB storage, 5TB transfer, and up to 55 domains for $5 a month!?!

Sounds too good to be true to me, but a couple friends set up sites with them and have been happy. They are personal sites so they aren't critical for a business or anything.

The only catch I can see so far is to get the $5 deal you have to sign up for 2 years paid up front.

*shrugs* Crazy deal if it's any good. They say the sites per server ratio is low, but I don't believe it.

Forced ads in headers, ewwwww!

Hehe, I found this posted on their News page:

  • Quote:
Quotaless does not have a simple history. The owner of this new site was also an ex-owner of another web hosting site, AHPlace.com. The old site was constantly targeted by hackers and prone to Denial-of-Service (DoS). The most recent case has seen one of the servers been hacked and all the data erased from the server.

TheDaddy,

There are other free hosts out there that don't make you maintain banner ads and junk.

taken from a random list I got here....
http://free.micfo.com

Of course, its not entirely free, you still have to pay a yearly fee with godaddy or whoever for a domain name, but the hosting itself is free, without any icky adverts.

Besides, I've seen .99 cent hosting a couple of places, hosting is getting dirt cheap these days

but remember, make sure to do your homework, because there are alot of web hosts out there that are just resellers for other hosting providers. I mean, its very easy for somebody to purchase a dedicated server from somebody, to turn around and sell hosting to make a quick profit. alot of that going around. Make sure its an actual company, and not just some individual selling some space from a dedicated server they own.

With my host for instance, not only was I able to get ahold of them on the telephone, but I was also able to go into their facility and take a tour of their equipment and everything. was soo cool, probably the most fun experience of my life I got to know the customer service techs face to face, I mean it was the most awesome experience I tell yah.

as for site5, I've heard mixed reviews about them Chris... I haven't tried them, no, but from looking over their plans, TB's of bandwidth, tells me there probably overselling. Just an observation though. but yeah I've seen their adverts around, and they rank fairly high next to bluehost from the rankings I saw.

I've been a Site5 customer since 2001 when they first got going. Their support is impecable. I used to have a regular account, but a few years ago I got a reseller account. I currently host 9 sites with them. They also have a community forum.

Pricing: Great
Support: Outstanding

I am sure you would be happy with their service.

I set up an account with Site5 this weekend to host some friend's guild websites on. I want to move some of the load from my personal server off.

Will be playing with it over the next couple weeks and see how it goes.

Chris - I know it's a bit late, but let me just add my $0.02 about Site5 - they are an outstanding Web Hosting provider, and I had been through 4 prior to that in less than a year. Great services, reliable, and very knowledgeable staff. The price is also excellent, and I didn't choose them based on price.

I think the reason they're doing those crazy pricing things are to snag customers, but really, the service is great. Heck, we even went so far as to sign up for their affiliate program.

HTH. Cheers!

Yep, thanks. I already signed up. I'm hosting a couple gaming guild sites for some friends and my own with them. So far the server has only been offline once that I've noticed and that was reasonably brief. They are very responsive to support questions and the price is right.
