Weird. I was on my daughter's PC, trying to update Norton's and stuff for her. While it was working, I was checking my email, and I had a couple of email alerts for new PT messages. I used the email link to open up the message board. I logged in, read the PT, and started typing a reply. IE crashed! It is a new Compaq el cheapo PC running Win XP Home and IE 6.0. The only difference between her PC and mine are these: mine is older, runs XP Pro and uses IE 6. I run Zone Alarm Pro, Norton's Antivirus and Spy Sweeper. Her PC does not have Zone Alarm or Spy Sweeper, yet. I was going to download ZA, but their site is down right now. I didn't save the error info the first time it happened. But, when it happened again, I did. I had to email the jpg to myself so I could post it from my PC, as her's won't let me post without IE crashing.

OKay, more info on the crash. I can actually MAKE IE crash on my daughter's PC when trying to post here! All I have to do is click reply, then type away! Boom, it crashes! It has nothing to do with Zone Alarm, because it still crashes even after I installed ZA Pro on her PC.

Here is some more of the technical info on the crash. I didn't save EVERY aspect of the crash. It would have taken over 80 screen caps to show it all. I have the first couple, and then the last module, and the beginning of the thread part of the error message. I do have a few more caps then what I posted here if you need them, just ask.

I just read an article mentioning that a typical windows box, without a firewall (can't count the one windows has as it's not *that* good) is infected within 20 minutes of being connected to the net.

I would get her ZoneAlarm asap and scan for viruses and then do the ritual of windows updates. (you may not want to do XP's SP2 yet)

I can't say for sure why her computer is doing what it's doing though. The javascript/css stuff seems to be working for many different browsers and systems. I think that clicking on a link from your email client actually lanches explorer as the windows explorer? In that it's as if a desktop window is being opened to the net or something like that. My ZoneAlarm always mentioned that IE being launched by itself and from the email client as different.

I have to boot my laptop over to windows to actually see what windows looks like when speaking about it. LoL but that's how I remember it.?

Ouch! Well, Norton's is up to date as of today. I'll go scan it. I did install Zone Alarm Pro before the second post above. Thanks, Dave!

Yes, I was checking my email in IE on our web based email system. It asked for the initial user name and password before allowing me to see the message. Then, I right clicked on the url to have it open the email link in a new IE Window. Once the new window loaded the message board, I then had to input my user name and password to log in to see it there. It didn't crash until I tried to type up a reply. Weird. Anywho, I'm posting this from my PC while Norton's is scanning hers. Oh, hers is a Compaq Presario if that makes any difference.

Just an update. Her PC is clean. Norton's found nothing. So far, nothing crashes IE on her PC except when trying to post here.

I'm really at a loss on this one. Anyone else with windows/ie that is having problems? (lol as if that's a question that needs to be asked)
