You can remove the new user and calendar particle boxes by editing the following templates and removing the related keys:
Templates: header_left.php and header_both.php
Keys: <!--PARTICLE_NEW_MEMBE R--> and
<--!PARTICLE_CALENDAR- >
Save the changes and upload the files to your server.
